Blind Review and the Process of Evaluation
Blind review is a method used to publish scientific publications with the highest quality. This method forms the basis of the objective evaluation of scientific studies and is preferred by many scientific journals. All studies submitted to Cyprus Turkish Journal of Psychiatry and Psychology are evaluated by blinding according to the following stages.
Blinding Review Type
Cyprus Turkish Journal of Psychiatry and Psychology uses the double blinding method during the evaluation process of all works. In double blinding method, the author and referee identities of studies are hidden.
Initial Evaluation Process
Works sent to Cyprus Turkish Journal of Psychiatry and Psychology are first evaluated by the editors. At this stage, works which do not comply with the purpose and scope of the journal, are weak in terms of language and narrative rules in Turkish and English, which contain critical scientific errors, have no original value and do not meet the publication policies are rejected. The authors of rejected works shall be notified within one month from the date of submission. The works that are found suitable are sent to a field editor for the field where the study is relevant.
In the pre-evaluation process, field editors examine the works, introduction and field writing, methods, findings, results, evaluation and discussion sections in terms of originality with the scope of journal publication policies and scope. As a result of this evaluation, the works which are not suitable are returned to the editor in four weeks at the latest with the evaluation report. Appropriate works are included in the review process.
The works are refereed according to the content and the areas of expertise of the referees. The field editor examining the study proposes at least two referees from the referee pool of Cyprus Turkish Journal of Psychiatry and Psychology according to their specialization areas or may propose new referees to the field of study. The referees’ suggestions from the field editor are evaluated by the editors and the works are sent by the editors to the referees. The referees are obliged to guarantee that they will not share any process and document about the work they are evaluating.
Referees’ evaluations are generally based on studies; specificity, the method used, compliance with ethical rules, consistent presentation of the findings and results and review of the literature. This review is based on the following features:
Introduction and Literature: The evaluation report includes the presentation of the problem and the aims of the study, the importance of the subject, the scope of the literature, the actuality and the originality of the study.
Method: The evaluation report includes information on the appropriateness of the method used, the selection and characteristics of the research group, the validity and reliability information, as well as the data collection and analysis process.
Findings: The evaluation report includes the presentation of the findings obtained within the framework of the method, the accuracy of the analysis methods, the consistency of the findings reached with the objectives of the research, the presentation of the required tables, figures and visuals, and the conceptual evaluation of the tests used.
Evaluation and Discussion: The evaluation report includes a discussion of the topic based on the findings, attitudes towards the research question (s) and hypotheses, generalizability, and feasibility.
Conclusion and Suggestions: The evaluation report includes remarks about the contribution to the literature, and suggestions to the future studies and practices.
Style and Narration: The evaluation report includes the connection of the title with the study, the use of Turkish in accordance with the rules, opinions on the submission of references to the language of the full text in accordance with the examples in the Journal publication principles.
General Evaluation: The evaluation report includes an overview of the originality of the study as a whole and its contribution to the literature and practices in the field.
In the evaluation process, referees are not expected to correct the typographic characteristics of the study.
Referee Evaluation Process
The time given to the referees for the review process is 3 weeks. It is mandatory for the authors to complete the correction suggestions from the referees or the expert editorial board within 3 weeks. The referees may decide on the eligibility of a study by reviewing the corrections of the study and may request correction more than once if necessary.
Result of the Evaluation Process
The opinions received from the referees are examined by the field editor at the latest within two (2) weeks. As a result of this review, the field editor reports its final decision to the editors.
Decision of the Publication Board
The editors prepare the opinions of the editorial board regarding the study based on the opinions of the editors and the field editor. The prepared opinions are submitted by the editor to the author (s) within one week at the latest together with the field editor and referee suggestions. In this process, negative opinions are returned without any request for plagiarism. The final decision for studies with favorable opinion is given based on the results of plagiarism audit reports.
How long does the Publication Evaluation Process take?
The publication evaluation process of the studies submitted to Cyprus Turkish Journal of Psychiatry and Psychology is expected to be finalized in approximately 3 months. However, the period between the date on which the referees or editors request the correction from the author (s) and the date when the author (s) complete the corrections is not included in this 3-month period.
Objection to Evaluation Result
In Cyprus Turkish Journal of Psychiatry and Psychology, the author (s) has the right to object to the evaluation. The author (s) should forward their objections to comments by e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org address with references and scientific language. Objections are reviewed (Opinion about the objections made to the referees of the study can be requested) by the editors within one month at the latest and positive or negative return is provided to the author (s). If the author (s) objections to the evaluation result are found to be positive, the editorial board will re-initiate the evaluation process by making a new review in accordance with the subject area of the study.
